The Cars
The Cars was een Amerikaanse rockband die in 1976 in Boston werd opgericht. De groep, die eind jaren zeventig opkwam in de new wave-scene, bestond uit Elliot Easton , Greg Hawkes , Ric Ocasek , Benjamin Orr en David Robinson . Ocasek en Orr deelden de leadzang, waarbij Ocasek de belangrijkste songwriter was. Bekend van hits als "Just What I Needed" , "Drive" en "My Best Friend's Girl" , combineerde de band rock met popinvloeden. Hun titelloze debuutalbum werd een hoeksteen van het new wave-genre. The Cars gingen in 1988 uit elkaar, maar hebben een blijvende impact gehad op alternatieve en poprockmuziek.
