Smell the sea wind, taste it on your lips

That foam that rolls over my lost ships

Write the letter once more in the sand

Where the breakers dip and the undertow slips

Kneel down and feel there at the water’s edge

Write our names there side by side

Look and listen to all those ships

That toss in the fog and in the tide

You can let down your hair when you kneel down there

Let me be the wind that pulls you hair

You be the man you made out of sand

And let your hands keep makin' him there

When nobody’s lookin' kiss your hand

Touch to the nose of your man in the sand

And lay down with your head there on his chest

Mail het uit met de hoge en de lage

Bekijk de sporen daar in het zand

Luister naar de mist op de daklozengolven

Voel de zoute zee in je handen

Ruik de zeewind, proef het op je lippen

Dat schuim dat over mijn verloren schepen rolt

Schrijf de brief nog een keer in het zand

Waar de branding duikt en de onderstroom wegglijdt

Kniel neer en voel daar aan de waterkant

Schrijf onze namen daar naast elkaar

Kijk en luister naar al die schepen

Dat gooien in de mist en in het getij

Je kunt je haar los laten als je daar neerknielt

Laat mij de wind zijn die aan je haren trekt

Jij bent de man die je van zand hebt gemaakt

En laat je handen hem daar blijven maken

Wanneer niemand kijkt kus je hand

Raak de neus van je man in het zand aan

En ga liggen met je hoofd daar op zijn borst

Wees aardig, wees aardig voor je man in het zand
