What I've Missed - The Riot Before

The window’s a mirror when the sun is a light bulb

There’s some beer in the fridge it’ll help take the edge off

But if the last one was emptied out last night

Then it’s a block through the rain to a well lit corner store

An ambulance wail undulates in the distance

Does not reveal the direction it travels

Will it get further away

Or drive right down this street

My scenery built with

A stranger’s tragedy

And I tragically

Try to fight for the cause but then marry the martyr

Is that statue that stands in the park a celebrity

If so does it get its own groceries

Just like me

Does it forget the list

And then get lost in the isles

Walk in circles aimless

Looking for what it has missed

There’s something I’ve missed

So I’ll put on my shoes

Grab my hat and my coat

Turn off all the lights

Turn the locks and walk alone

Passed the houses, and storefronts, and streets

By all the people I’ll never get to know

Till I stop at your front door

I hope that you are home

Het raam is een spiegel als de zon een gloeilamp is

Er staat wat bier in de koelkast, dat helpt om de scherpte eraf te halen

Maar als de laatste gisteravond is geleegd

Dan is het een blok door de regen naar een goed verlichte winkel op de hoek

Een ambulancegejammer golft in de verte

onthult niet de richting waarin het reist

Komt het verder weg?

Of rijd deze straat in

Mijn landschap gebouwd met

De tragedie van een vreemde

En ik tragisch genoeg

Probeer te vechten voor de zaak, maar trouw dan met de martelaar

Is dat standbeeld dat in het park staat een beroemdheid?

Zo ja, krijgt hij zijn eigen boodschappen?

Net zoals mij

Is het de lijst vergeten?

En verdwaal dan op de eilanden

Loop doelloos in cirkels

Op zoek naar wat het heeft gemist

Er is iets dat ik heb gemist

Dus ik trek mijn schoenen aan

Pak mijn hoed en mijn jas

Doe alle lichten uit

Draai de sloten om en loop alleen

Langs de huizen, en winkelpuien, en straten

Door alle mensen die ik nooit zal leren kennen

Tot ik bij je voordeur stop

Ik hoop dat je thuis bent
