Is reading

I don’t know smart person who doesn’t read

And read all the time

The problem is

What do I read

How do I read

Because for most people its struggle and a chore

So, the most important thing is to learn how to educate yourself

And the way to educate yourself is to develop a love for reading

Read what you love until you love to read

It’s that simple

Everybody I know who reads a lot love to read

And they love to read because they read books they loved

It’s a little a bit of a catch-22

But you basically want to start off just reading wherever you are

And then keep building up from there until reading becomes a habit

And then eventually you will just get bored of the simple stuff

You may start up reading fiction

Then you may graduate to science fiction

Then you may graduate to nonfiction

Then you may graduate to science or philosophy or mathematics or whatever it is

But take your natural path

And just to read the things that interests you

Until you can understand them

And then you’ll actually move the next thing

And the next thing

And the next thing

It’s that simple

At some point there’s too much out there to read

And even reading is full of junk

There are actually things you can be especially early on

That will program your brain a certain way

And then later

Things that you read you will decide whether those things are true or false

Based on the earlier things

So it is important that you read foundational things

And the ultimate is when you walk into a library

And you look at it up and down

And you don’t fear any book

You know that you can take any book off the shelf

And you can read it

You can understand it

You can absorb what is true

You can reject what is false

And you have a basis for working that out

That is logical and not purely based on opinions

The beauty of the Internet is the entire Library of Alexandria

It is not the means of education

Or the means of learning are scarce

The means of learning are abundant

It is the desire to learn that’s scarce

So, you really have to cultivate that desire

And it’s not even cultivated you have to not lose it

Children have a natural curiosity

If you go to a young child who is first learning a language

They’re pretty much always asking

What this?

What’s that?

Why’s this?

Who is that?

They’re always asking questions

But one of the problems is that

Our educational system

And our way of raising children replaces this curiosity with compliance

And once you replace the curiosity with compliance you get an obedient factory

worker

But you no longer get a creative thinker

And you need creativity

You need the ability to feed your own brain to learn whatever you want

Ik ken geen slimme persoon die niet leest

Het probleem is

Omdat het voor de meeste mensen een strijd en een karwei is

En ze houden van lezen omdat ze boeken lazen waar ze van hielden

Het is een beetje een catch-22

Maar je wilt eigenlijk gewoon beginnen met lezen, waar je ook bent

En bouw dan verder op tot lezen een gewoonte wordt

En dan raak je uiteindelijk gewoon verveeld met de simpele dingen

U kunt beginnen met het lezen van fictie

Dan kun je afstuderen naar sciencefiction

Dan kun je overstappen naar non-fictie

Dan kun je afstuderen in wetenschap of filosofie of wiskunde of wat het ook is

Maar volg je natuurlijke pad

En gewoon om de dingen te lezen die u interesseren

Tot je ze kunt begrijpen

En dan ga je eigenlijk het volgende verplaatsen

En het volgende

En het volgende

Het is zo simpel

Op een gegeven moment is er te veel om te lezen

En zelfs lezen staat vol met rommel

Er zijn dingen die je vooral in het begin kunt doen

Dat zal je hersenen op een bepaalde manier programmeren

En dan later

Dingen die je leest, zul je beslissen of die dingen waar of onwaar zijn

Op basis van de eerdere dingen

Het is dus belangrijk dat u fundamentele dingen leest

En het ultieme is wanneer je een bibliotheek binnenloopt

En je bekijkt het van boven naar beneden

En je bent voor geen enkel boek bang

Je weet dat je elk boek van de plank kunt halen

En je kunt het lezen

Je kunt het begrijpen

Je kunt absorberen wat waar is

U kunt afwijzen wat onwaar is

En je hebt een basis om dat uit te werken

Dat is logisch en niet puur gebaseerd op meningen

Het mooie van internet is de hele bibliotheek van Alexandrië

Times 10 is altijd binnen handbereik

Het is niet de manier van onderwijs

Of de middelen om te leren zijn schaars

De middelen om te leren zijn er in overvloed

Het is het verlangen om te leren dat schaars is

Dus je moet dat verlangen echt cultiveren

En het is niet eens gecultiveerd, je hoeft het niet te verliezen

Kinderen hebben een natuurlijke nieuwsgierigheid

Als u naar een jong kind gaat dat voor het eerst een taal leert,

Ze vragen vrijwel altijd

Wat dit?

Wat is dat?

Waarom is dit?

Wie is dat?

Ze stellen altijd vragen

Maar een van de problemen is dat:

Ons onderwijssysteem

En onze manier om kinderen op te voeden, vervangt deze nieuwsgierigheid door gehoorzaamheid

En zodra je de nieuwsgierigheid vervangt door naleving, krijg je een gehoorzame fabriek

Maar je krijgt geen creatieve denker meer

En je hebt creativiteit nodig

Je hebt het vermogen nodig om je eigen brein te voeden om te leren wat je maar wilt
