Psalm 16 - The Corner Room

2 I say to the Lord, «You are my Lord;

I have no good apart from you.»

3 As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones,

in whom is all my delight.

4 The sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply;

Their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out

or take their names on my lips.

5 The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup;

you hold my lot.

6 The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;

indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.

Beautiful inheritance.

7 I bless the Lord who gives me counsel;

in the night also my heart instructs me.

8 I have set the Lord always before me;

because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices;

my flesh also dwells secure.

10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol,

or let your holy one see corruption.

11 You make known to me the path of life;

in your presence there is fullness of joy;

at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

2 Ik zeg tot de Heer: «U bent mijn Heer;

Ik heb niets goeds behalve jou.»

3 De heiligen in het land zijn de voortreffelijken,

in wie al mijn vreugde is.

4 De smarten van hen die een andere god achterna rennen, zullen zich vermenigvuldigen;

Hun drankoffers van bloed zal ik niet uitgieten

of neem hun namen op mijn lippen.

5 De Heer is mijn uitverkoren deel en mijn beker;

jij hebt mijn lot.

6 De lijnen zijn voor mij gevallen op aangename plaatsen;

inderdaad, ik heb een mooie erfenis.

Mooie erfenis.

7 Ik zegen de Heer die mij raad geeft;

in de nacht instrueert ook mijn hart mij.

8 Ik heb de Heer altijd voor mijn aangezicht gesteld;

omdat hij aan mijn rechterhand is, zal ik niet wankelen.

9 Daarom is mijn hart blij, en mijn hele wezen verheugt zich;

mijn vlees woont ook veilig.

10 Want u zult mijn ziel niet aan Sjeool overlaten,

of laat uw heilige corruptie zien.

11 U maakt mij het pad van het leven bekend;

in uw aanwezigheid is er volheid van vreugde;

aan uw rechterhand zijn genoegens voor altijd.
