Psalm 1 - The Corner Room

1 Blessed is the man

who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,

nor stands in the way of sinners,

nor sits in the seat of scoffers;

2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord,

and on his law he meditates day and night.

3 He is like a tree

planted by streams of water

that yields its fruit in its season,

and its leaf does not wither.

In all that he does, he prospers.

4 The wicked are not so,

but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,

nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;

6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,

but the way of the wicked will perish.

1 Gezegend is de man

die niet wandelt naar de raad van de goddelozen,

noch staat in de weg van zondaars,

noch zit in de zetel van spotters;

2 maar zijn lust is in de wet van de Heer,

en over zijn wet mediteert hij dag en nacht.

3 Hij is als een boom

geplant door waterstromen

die op zijn tijd zijn vruchten afwerpt,

en zijn blad verdort niet.

In alles wat hij doet, gedijt hij.

4 Zo zijn de goddelozen niet,

maar zijn als kaf dat de wind verdrijft.

5 Daarom zullen de goddelozen niet standhouden in het oordeel,

noch zondaars in de gemeente van de rechtvaardigen;

6 want de Heer kent de weg van de rechtvaardigen,

maar de weg van de goddelozen zal vergaan.
