The bright sun a-shining and blue skies a-pining

For the want of some clouds or some ornamentation

The heathers a-blazing and cows are a-grazing

As I sit on the hill overlooking the bay

They’re out on the ocean the ships are in motion

From Killybegs Harbour right down to Kinsale;

Down in the harbour the crowds they have gathered

To watch the winds blowing the ships in full sail

Some then sail for pleasure and others for treasure

And some do the wishin' and some are there fishin';

But what e’er you’re making you’ll need no awaking

To the dangers involved for the ships on the sea

They’re out on the ocean the ships are in motion

The seagulls are squawking they seem to be talking

Of this grandrous sight which seems oh so leisurely;

In summer it’s pleasing but in winter it’s teasing

And storms will be blowing the ships in the sea

De felle zon schijnt en de blauwe lucht smacht naar

Bij gebrek aan wat wolken of wat versieringen

De heide gloeit en de koeien grazen

Terwijl ik op de heuvel zit met uitzicht op de baai

Ze zijn op de oceaan, de schepen zijn in beweging

Beneden in de haven de menigte die ze hebben verzameld

Om te zien hoe de wind de schepen met volle zeilen waait

Sommigen varen dan voor plezier en anderen voor schatten

En sommigen doen de wens en sommigen zijn daar aan het vissen;

Maar wat je ook maakt, je hoeft niet wakker te worden

Aan de gevaren voor de schepen op zee

Ze zijn op de oceaan, de schepen zijn in beweging

De meeuwen krijsen, ze lijken te praten

Van deze grootse aanblik die oh zo ontspannen lijkt;

In de zomer is het leuk, maar in de winter is het plagen

En stormen zullen de schepen in de zee blazen
