High town, high street connections

With clothes at the top of my list

You could steal things from the jewelry department

But you can’t take kind or steal a kiss

As I flit from shop window to window

I’m trying to pick up a friendly bargain

But it’s not like the adverts all make out

And there’s no one to greet you as a friend

I dress myself for the part

I smile but it just don’t work

Something about my face must just be the wrong shape

I better try another brand pretty quick

I’m haunted by the colors and hoardings

A reminder that I must be inadequate

Met kleding bovenaan mijn lijst

Je zou dingen kunnen stelen van de juwelenafdeling

Maar je kunt niet vriendelijk zijn of een kus stelen

Terwijl ik van etalage naar etalage vlieg

Ik probeer een vriendelijk koopje af te sluiten

Maar het is niet zoals de advertenties allemaal laten zien

En er is niemand om je als vriend te begroeten

Ik kleed mezelf voor de rol

Ik glimlach, maar het werkt gewoon niet

Iets aan mijn gezicht moet gewoon de verkeerde vorm hebben

Ik kan beter snel een ander merk proberen

Ik word achtervolgd door de kleuren en reclameborden

Een herinnering dat ik ontoereikend moet zijn

Hoge stad, hoofdstraat verbinding

Met kleding bovenaan mijn lijst
