A private monopoloy is guaranteed to win

They charge what they like, give you cause for much grief

And the customer watchdogs have more gums than teeth

The huge hypermarkets on the outskirts of town

Convenience is up, and the prices are down

But the cost of this comfort is not set at nought

It’s all the small business in the bankruptcy court

The cool high street clothes stores are part of the scene

Neat designer labels, a marketing man’s dream

The young people buy them, and here’s the surprise

They pay extra for logos, which in turn advertise

Is Diana an angel, is Charles a cad?

It’s a media circus gone totally mad

The never ending rehash of their private lives

And who knows the truth between husbands and wives?

Onverklaarbare, gezichtsloze, niemand weet het

Rijker dan landen, hun zaak gaat vooruit

Ze trekken aan de touwtjes die de politiek laten dansen

De particuliere nutsvoorzieningen, ik moet ze binnenhalen

Gegarandeerd een privémonopolie om te winnen

Ze rekenen wat ze willen, geven je reden tot veel verdriet

En de klantenwaakhonden hebben meer tandvlees dan tanden

De enorme hypermarkten aan de rand van de stad

Het gemak stijgt en de prijzen dalen

Maar de kosten van dit comfort zijn niet op nul gezet

Het zijn allemaal kleine bedrijven in de faillissementsrechtbank

De coole high street kledingwinkels maken deel uit van de scene

Nette designerlabels, de droom van een marketingman

De jongeren kopen ze, en hier is de verrassing

Ze betalen extra voor logo's, die op hun beurt adverteren

Is Diana een engel, is Charles een cad?

Het is een mediacircus dat helemaal gek is geworden

De nooit eindigende herhaling van hun privéleven

En wie kent de waarheid tussen man en vrouw?
