To Catch a Snipe - Let's Get It

I guess I should start with the rising scene over the city.

The busiest extras sit drinking their tea,

Trying hard to be seen.

Not quite stars, but well on their way,

Through mechanical breathing and controllable thinking.

But enough about no ones, back to my show.

I’ll tell you a story about someone I know.

And he sang out, while everyone’s whispering,

About things that shouldn’t matter.

All they care about is who they came with to the show.

Here’s your lines, say them right, they go…

«What does he think that he’s trying to prove?

Oh and where does he get off using those moves?

It’s opening night and he’s hogging my spotlight.

Baby, there ain’t room for two.»

«Kill the lights,"he screams.

«Watch me shine,"he sings,

«La da da da da da»

If there’s a way from this stage to the top of the world,

I’ll be there.

Watch me turn all of these «no's"into «wow's»

Into «How could the crowd be so blinded with doubt?»

He won’t mind them much longer, despite all their laughter.

He knows the one who laughs last is the one who laughs loudest.

«What does he think that he’s trying to prove?

Oh and where does he get off using those moves?

It’s opening night and he’s hogging my spotlight.

Enough is enough, no more time for charades.

His mind racing like his pulse, he was fed up with these games.

No more reaching or needing these «not-quite friends.»

They made a puppet out of me, I’ll make a puppet out of them.

With a pocket full of strings and an arsenal of wits,

In a matter of time they’ll be screaming his name.

He could smell the sweet roses sail towards the stage.

Now the house lights are dimming.

The show is beginning.

Please take your seats.

Oh, and thank you for coming.

A marvelous thing, I raise both my hands,

As I make them all sing

Ik denk dat ik moet beginnen met de stijgende scène boven de stad.

De drukste figuranten zitten thee te drinken,

Doet zijn best om gezien te worden.

Niet helemaal sterren, maar goed op weg,

Door mechanische ademhaling en controleerbaar denken.

Maar genoeg over niemand, terug naar mijn show.

Ik zal je een verhaal vertellen over iemand die ik ken.

En hij zong het uit, terwijl iedereen fluisterde,

Over dingen die er niet toe zouden moeten doen.

Het enige waar ze om geven is met wie ze naar de show kwamen.

Hier zijn je regels, zeg ze goed, ze gaan ...

«Wat denkt hij dat hij probeert te bewijzen?

Oh en waar komt hij uit met die bewegingen?

Het is openingsavond en hij houdt mijn schijnwerpers in de gaten.

Schat, er is geen plaats voor twee.»

"Dood de lichten", schreeuwt hij.

"Kijk me schijnen," zingt hij,

Als er een weg is van dit podium naar de top van de wereld,

Ik zal er zijn.

Kijk hoe ik al deze 'nee's' in 'wow's' verander

In "Hoe kon de menigte zo verblind zijn door twijfel?"

Hij zal niet lang meer op ze letten, ondanks al hun gelach.

Hij weet dat degene die het laatst lacht degene is die het hardst lacht.

«Wat denkt hij dat hij probeert te bewijzen?

Oh en waar komt hij uit met die bewegingen?

Het is openingsavond en hij houdt mijn schijnwerpers in de gaten.

"Dood de lichten", schreeuwt hij.

"Kijk me schijnen," zingt hij,

Als er een weg is van dit podium naar de top van de wereld,

Ik zal er zijn.

Genoeg is genoeg, geen tijd meer voor charades.

Zijn geest raasde als zijn pols, hij had genoeg van deze spelletjes.

Deze "niet-helemaal vrienden" niet meer bereiken of nodig hebben.

Ze hebben een pop van mij gemaakt, ik zal een pop van ze maken.

Met een zak vol snaren en een arsenaal aan verstand,

Binnen de kortste keren zullen ze zijn naam schreeuwen.

Hij rook de zoete rozen die naar het podium zeilden.

Nu dimmen de lampen in huis.

De show begint.

Neemt u alstublieft plaats.

Oh, en bedankt voor je komst.

Een wonderbaarlijk iets, ik steek mijn beide handen op,

Terwijl ik ze allemaal laat zingen
