I have a lot of strange interactions on the street.

Years ago I was walking down the street and

a homeless guy came up to me

And he walked up to me and he pushed me,

like that, he pushed me in the chest

And then he said these things, in this order, he pushed me and he said:

Excuse me

I am homeless

I am gay

I have aids

I’m new in town

(audience laughing)

You’re gonna close with new in town?

That is not the most dramatic thing that you just said

As they say in the movie, Jerry McGuire;

«You had me at aids.»

Here’s how I would’ve ordered those things

I would’ve said:

Excuse me

I’m new in town

And it gets worse

(audience laughing)

Didn’t that guy practice his like

pitch at all in the mirror that morning?

And just figure out what he was gonna say?

You know?

Just like in the morning just be like

«Alright what am I gonna do today… what am I gonna do today?

Alright I’ll walk up and say hello

No that’s too subtle

I’m gonna push him

Imma push him

And I’m gonna say, «I'm new in town»

No no, hold back, hold back

Save it

Build to that

How about I go walk up to him

I’ll push him

I’ll go, «I have aids»

No that’s too strong

Alright now

I’m gonna walk up to him

I’m gonna push him

I will start with the fact that I am homeless

As that is a given

Then for a back story I will pepper in the fact that I am gay

Which I know its tough for gay youth on the streets

But thats not like a reason for money

You can’t be like

«Hey, would you help me out?

I am very gay, I’d like a few dollars.»

I always loved how he phrased it by the way

He didn’t say

«I'm living on the street»

He said

«I'm new in town»

Like it was intriguing

Like he wanted me to set him up with somebody

Like I have a friend who’s like

«There's no single guys left in Manhattan!»

And I’m like

«I know someone who’s new in town»

«What are three other things about him?»

Ik heb veel vreemde interacties op straat.

Jaren geleden liep ik op straat en

een dakloze kwam naar me toe

En hij liep naar me toe en hij duwde me,

zo duwde hij me in de borst

En toen zei hij deze dingen, in deze volgorde, hij duwde me en hij zei:

Neem me niet kwalijk

Ik ben dakloos

ik ben homo

Ik heb aids

Ik ben nieuw in de stad

(publiek lacht)

Je gaat afsluiten met nieuw in de stad?

Dat is niet het meest dramatische dat je net zei

Zoals ze in de film zeggen, Jerry McGuire;

"Je had me aan aids."

Dit is hoe ik die dingen zou hebben besteld

Ik zou hebben gezegd:

Neem me niet kwalijk

Ik ben nieuw in de stad

En het wordt nog erger

(publiek lacht)

Heeft die vent zijn like niet geoefend?

die ochtend helemaal niet in de spiegel staan?

En uitzoeken wat hij wilde zeggen?

Je weet wel?

Net als 's ochtends, wees gewoon zo

«Ok, wat ga ik vandaag doen... wat ga ik vandaag doen?

Oké, ik loop naar boven en zeg hallo

Nee, dat is te subtiel

ik ga hem pushen

Ik zal hem duwen

En ik ga zeggen: "Ik ben nieuw in de stad"

Nee nee, houd terug, houd terug

Bewaar het

Daarop bouwen

Wat als ik naar hem toe ga lopen?

ik zal hem duwen

Ik ga, "ik heb aids"

Nee, dat is te sterk

Oké nu

Ik ga naar hem toe lopen

ik ga hem pushen

Ik zal beginnen met het feit dat ik dakloos ben

Omdat dat een gegeven is

Dan zal ik voor een achtergrondverhaal peperen in het feit dat ik homo ben

Ik weet dat het moeilijk is voor homoseksuele jongeren op straat

Maar dat is geen reden voor geld

Je kunt niet zijn zoals

'Hé, wil je me helpen?

Ik ben erg homo, ik wil graag een paar dollar.»

Ik vond het trouwens altijd leuk hoe hij het formuleerde

Hij zei niet:

"Ik woon op straat"

Hij zei

"Ik ben nieuw in de stad"

Alsof het intrigerend was

Alsof hij wilde dat ik hem met iemand zou koppelen

Alsof ik een vriend heb die zo is

«Er is geen enkele man meer in Manhattan!»

En ik ben als

"Ik ken iemand die nieuw is in de stad"

"Wat zijn nog drie andere dingen aan hem?"
