Christmas at the Zoo - The Flaming Lips, Peter Mokran

There wasn’t any snow on Christmas eve

And I knew what I should do

I thought I’d free the animals all locked up at the zoo

I opened up the fence where the peacocks were

The llamas were unleashed

The snakes and seals could all get out

But they refused to leave

All of the animals agreed

They’re not happy at the zoo

But they preferred to save themselves

They seemed to think they could

The elephants, orangutans

All the birds and kangaroos all said

«Thanks but no thanks man»

To be concerned is good

It started to snow on Christmas Eve

In the middle of the night

Walking through the state park zoo

And everything is white

Er was geen sneeuw op kerstavond

En ik wist wat ik moest doen

Ik dacht dat ik de dieren zou bevrijden die allemaal opgesloten zaten in de dierentuin

Ik opende het hek waar de pauwen waren

De lama's zijn losgelaten

De slangen en zeehonden kunnen allemaal naar buiten

Maar ze weigerden te vertrekken

Alle dieren waren het erover eens

Ze zijn niet gelukkig in de dierentuin

Maar ze wilden liever zichzelf redden

Ze leken te denken dat ze dat konden

De olifanten, orang-oetans

Alle vogels en kangoeroes zeiden allemaal:

«Bedankt, maar nee bedankt man»

Bezorgd zijn is goed

Het begon te sneeuwen op kerstavond

Midden in de nacht

Wandelen door de dierentuin van het staatspark

En alles is wit
