Dystopian Nightmares - Misery Index

Born under black skies, with no expectations,

We crawl through our paralyzing pantomime of life,

Awaiting resurrection, the great unwashed seethe,

In quiet desperation we accept our condition fatally,

Is this the present?

Can we call this life?

And for the future… utopian, dystopian, or death?

Thirty million voices, slogging through the undergrowth,

As islands in prosperity, they fuel it with their blood,

In total separation, they scavenge for their daily bread

Forgotten citizens, a class in themselves lost at sea,

Is this the present?

Can we call this life?

What have they worked for

…these dreams in the gutter, unspent?

Desire traded for dearth,

And Hope for destitution?

As eaters and eaten break bread,

They learn their trades in time,

But the teacher must be taught just as well,

And as such this tragedy unfolds…

Geboren onder een zwarte lucht, zonder verwachtingen,

We kruipen door onze verlammende pantomime van het leven,

In afwachting van de opstanding, zieden de grote ongewassen,

In stille wanhoop accepteren we onze toestand dodelijk,

Is dit het heden?

Kunnen we dit leven noemen?

En voor de toekomst... utopisch, dystopisch of de dood?

Dertig miljoen stemmen ploeteren door het kreupelhout,

Als eilanden in welvaart, voeden ze het met hun bloed,

In totale scheiding zoeken ze naar hun dagelijks brood

Vergeten burgers, een klasse op zichzelf verloren op zee,

Is dit het heden?

Kunnen we dit leven noemen?

En voor de toekomst... utopisch, dystopisch of de dood?

Waar hebben ze voor gewerkt?

…deze dromen in de goot, onuitgegeven?

Verlangen geruild voor gebrek,

En hoop op armoede?

Als eters en gegeten breken brood,

Ze leren hun vak op tijd,

Maar de leraar moet net zo goed worden onderwezen,

En als zodanig ontvouwt deze tragedie zich...
