Way out in the island with the coconut tree

With the pearly shells and the tropical breeze

There’s a hillbilly girl from Tennessee

She’s had enough of the hills and me

So she’s taken to the lessons in Waikiki

I guess she’s right where she wants to be

She dances with wahini’s in the islands now

She’s trying to do the hula but she don’t know how

She’s got the poniola’s in her own corral

She feeds them grits and gravy at the old luau

The Blue Grass hills and the Mountain Dew

Wait till she leaves Honolulu

She better come home like she’s suppose to do

Now she looks twice as good in a little grass skirt

Than overalls and a tore up shirt

But corn don’t grow in lava dirt

There’s smiles on the faces if the island boys

Cause her southern drawl gives a big enjoy

She can’t churn butter when she’s dipping that poi

Now she never used to give a hoot for coconuts or taro root

She’s a country gal living in the islands now

She’s trying to get the hula girl to show her how

When she gets through with this fantasy

Just come on back to Tennessee

Back with me where she’s suppose to be

Ze heeft genoeg van de heuvels en van mij

Dus ze is meegenomen naar de lessen in Waikiki

Ik denk dat ze precies is waar ze wil zijn

Ze probeert de hoela te doen, maar ze weet niet hoe

Ze heeft de poniola's in haar eigen kraal

Ze voert ze grits en jus bij de oude luau

Wacht tot ze Honolulu verlaat

Ze kan maar beter naar huis komen zoals ze zou moeten doen

Nu ziet ze er twee keer zo goed uit in een klein grasrokje

Dan een overall en een gescheurd shirt

Maar maïs groeit niet in lavavuil

Er is een glimlach op de gezichten als de eilandjongens

Want haar zuidelijke accent geeft een groot plezier

Ze kan geen boter karnen als ze die poi aan het dippen is

Nu gaf ze nooit om kokosnoten of tarowortel

Ze is een plattelandsmeisje dat nu op de eilanden woont

Ze probeert het hoelameisje zover te krijgen haar te laten zien hoe

Als ze klaar is met deze fantasie

Kom gewoon terug naar Tennessee

Terug bij mij waar ze hoort te zijn
