The Carol Of The Birds - Joan Baez

When rose the eastern star, the birds came from a-far,

in that full might of glory.

With one melodious voice they sweetly did rejoice

and sang the wonderous story,

sang, praising God on high, enthroned above the sky,

and his fair mother Mary.

The eagle left his lair, came winging through the air,

his message loud arising.

And to his jouyous cry the sparrow made reply,

his answer sweetly voicing.

«Overcome are death and strife, this night is born new life»,

the robin sang rejoicing.

Toen de oostelijke ster opkwam, kwamen de vogels van ver,

in die volle macht van glorie.

Met één melodieuze stem verheugden ze zich lieflijk

en zong het wonderlijke verhaal,

zong, God loofde in de hoogte, troonde boven de hemel,

en zijn schone moeder Mary.

De adelaar verliet zijn hol, kwam vliegend door de lucht,

zijn boodschap luid opkomen.

En op zijn jouyous kreet antwoordde de mus,

zijn antwoord zoet verwoord.

"Overwonnen zijn dood en strijd, deze nacht is nieuw leven geboren",

het roodborstje zong verheugend.

Toen de oostelijke ster opkwam, kwamen de vogels van ver.
