But none quite like ol' Cajun Joe

He lives down a slough where the river used to flow

Worked real hard most of his life

Till the pushin' came to shove

Gave it all he had but he just couldn’t rise above

That’s why he’s down at the bottom

Where the alligator swims and the old grey moss hangs low

Seems the only place that a country boy

Can find some piece of mind

And get back up, is on the bottom

Ik kan niet zeggen dat ik nu terugkijk

Precies waar onze liefde mis ging

Maar het harde koude feit is dat ze niet hier is, ze is weg

Heeft me beloofd dat ze trouw zou zijn tot de rivieren opdrogen

De rivieren stromen nog steeds, maar ze heeft al lang vaarwel gezegd

Waar de Mocassin's King en de grote hoge cipres groeien

Lijkt de enige plek waar een plattelandsjongen is

Kan wat gemoedsrust vinden

En weer opstaan, staat onderaan

Maar geen enkele lijkt op de oude Cajun Joe

Hij woont in een moeras waar vroeger de rivier stroomde

Het grootste deel van zijn leven heel hard gewerkt

Tot de pushin' kwam om te duwen

Hij gaf alles wat hij had, maar hij kon er gewoon niet bovenuit komen

Daarom staat hij onderaan

Waar de alligator zwemt en het oude grijze mos laag hangt

Lijkt de enige plek waar een plattelandsjongen is

Kan wat gemoedsrust vinden

En weer opstaan, staat onderaan

Ik kan weer opstaan, hier onderaan

Op de bodem van de Natchez-rivier...
