Chuck Berry - The Toasters

Forty years ago there was a Jumpin' Jazz Jamaica scene

They could hear these tunes drifting down from New Orleans

They put the two together in a thing they called Ska

And sent it off to England in the back of Laurel Aitken’s car

It was 1964 and the rhythm just wouldn’t stop

People banging on the door to hear «My boy Lollipop»

Then the 70's came and with it the 2 Tone scene…

People shakin' their heads at the rudies on the record machine

Now the 90's are here with the new bands bringin' it to you

Skins and rudies-and even some punk rock, too!

But the boys are still playing and the music is coming out right!

Down at your jukebox, dancing on a Saturday night!

In their eyes where does Chuck Berry fit?

Well he influenced the Ska, that’s the long and the short of it

He played his guitar and they heard it on the radio

And the rest is history, just as everybody knows…

Veertig jaar geleden was er een Jumpin' Jazz Jamaica scene

Ze konden deze deuntjes horen drijven uit New Orleans

Ze brachten de twee samen in een ding dat ze Ska . noemden

En stuurde het naar Engeland achter in de auto van Laurel Aitken

Het was 1964 en het ritme wilde maar niet stoppen

Mensen die op de deur bonzen om "My boy Lollipop" te horen

Toen kwamen de jaren 70 en daarmee de 2 Tone scene...

Mensen schudden hun hoofd bij de rudies op de platenmachine

Nu zijn de jaren 90 hier met de nieuwe bands die het naar je toe brengen

Skins en rudies - en zelfs wat punkrock!

Maar de jongens spelen nog steeds en de muziek komt er goed uit!

Beneden bij je jukebox, dansend op een zaterdagavond!

Waar past Chuck Berry in hun ogen?

Nou, hij heeft de Ska beïnvloed, dat is het lang en kort

Hij speelde op zijn gitaar en ze hoorden het op de radio

En de rest is geschiedenis, zoals iedereen weet...
