Saturday - Vanilla Muffins

the taxi lights were in your eyes

so warm against st marys spires

the carnival was over in the rain

and arm in arm through vincent street

the evening hanging like a dream

i touched your face and saw the night again

and in your arms i watched the stars

ascend and sweep a loneliness away for a while

your fingers white and locked in mine

i kiss your face i kiss your eyes until

they turn to me and softly smile

and empty hearted i walked on

the river flowing to the song

of the evening in the darkness and the rain

the christmas lights were far down stream

the wind so lonely and unreal

i saw your face and i thought you were a dream

but when i saw your eyes what could i do?

your kisses they will hide away the stars

its Saturday, the evening’s come

the football crowds have all gone home

but still behind this window i look on

december’s leaves so slowly fall

to cars that break the evening’s pall

het carnaval was voorbij in de regen

de avond hangt als een droom

ik raakte je gezicht aan en zag de nacht weer

en in je armen keek ik naar de sterren

opstijgen en een eenzaamheid wegvagen voor een tijdje

je vingers wit en opgesloten in de mijne

ik kus je gezicht ik kus je ogen tot

ze draaien zich naar me toe en glimlachen zachtjes

en met een leeg hart liep ik verder

de rivier die naar het lied stroomt

van de avond in de duisternis en de regen

de kerstverlichting was ver stroomafwaarts

de wind zo eenzaam en onwerkelijk

ik zag je gezicht en ik dacht dat je een droom was

maar toen ik je ogen zag, wat kon ik doen?

wat kan ik zeggen, mijn liefste?

jouw kussen, ze zullen de sterren verbergen

het is zaterdag, de avond is aangebroken

de voetbalmenigten zijn allemaal naar huis gegaan

maar toch achter dit raam kijk ik toe

de bladeren van december vallen zo langzaam

naar auto's die de avond verbleken

en ik zal wachten tot je vanavond komt
