Sounds of the Studio (Prelude) - Madlib

Before we go any further I’d like to show you all a game I made up.

This game is called «Sounds of the Studio», and it can be played with any

record, including this one

You can play it, uh, with… you can play it with your favorite record — you

may be surprised.

Now if you have a pair of headphones you better get 'em out

and get 'em cranked up 'cause they’re really gonna help you on this one

Now I’m sure you all recognize this.

(hissing noise) This is called hiss.

It comes on records that were mastered lousy, or, uh, mono re-processed for

stereo, or any number of things

(Humming noise) This of course, is hum

P’s popping — This is the sound of bad editing

And here’s what happens when the machine gains control and mangles your tape.

Punch… outs

Now all you have to do is find these sounds on the record, and whoever finds

the most wins of course

But don’t-

Yo we got a lot of superstars in the house

So get ready for some

Voordat we verder gaan, wil ik jullie allemaal een spel laten zien dat ik heb verzonnen.

Deze game heet 'Sounds of the Studio' en kan met elke game worden gespeeld

opnemen, waaronder deze

Je kunt het afspelen, uh, met... je kunt het afspelen met je favoriete plaat — jij

kan verrast zijn.

Als je nu een koptelefoon hebt, kun je die maar beter tevoorschijn halen

en zet ze op scherp, want ze gaan je hier echt mee helpen

Nu weet ik zeker dat jullie dit allemaal herkennen.

(sissend geluid) Dit wordt sissen genoemd.

Het komt op platen die slecht zijn gemasterd, of, uh, mono opnieuw zijn verwerkt voor

stereo, of een aantal dingen

(Zoemend geluid) Dit is natuurlijk zoemen

P's knallen — Dit is het geluid van slechte montage

En dit is wat er gebeurt als de machine de controle overneemt en je tape verminkt.

Punch... outs

Nu hoef je alleen maar deze geluiden op de plaat te vinden, en wie vindt...

de meeste overwinningen natuurlijk
