There goes Bobby Ray, Junior

Pullin' out of town

Got his family in a U-Haul

They’re all sunbelt bound

Another farm abandoned

They gave the land back to the wind

The price of fuel went up, corn went down

And I don’t think we’ll be seeing Bobby again

It’s a hard country

Last year the fields were all too wet to plow

Hard country

And this year they say that it looks like a drought

But I can’t leave

My roots go deep in this hard country

I’ve got a friend got a job in the city

Installing burglar alarms

He says he’s makin' real good money

But I can tell he misses the farm

He calls to ask how the crops are doin'

I say we could use some rain

Says his life is movin' kinda fast

And I tell him out here things are always the same

Well the snow piles up in the winter

And the bugs come out in June

But somehow, it’s all worth it

When I see that harvest moon

Trek de stad uit

Kreeg zijn familie in een U-Haul

Ze zijn allemaal aan de zonnegordel gebonden

Weer een boerderij verlaten

Ze gaven het land terug aan de wind

De prijs van brandstof ging omhoog, maïs ging omlaag

En ik denk niet dat we Bobby nog zullen zien

Het is een moeilijk land

Vorig jaar waren de velden allemaal te nat om te ploegen

Hard land

En dit jaar zeggen ze dat het lijkt op droogte

Maar ik kan niet weggaan

Mijn roots gaan diep in dit harde land

Ik heb een vriend die een baan heeft in de stad

Inbraakalarm installeren

Hij zegt dat hij echt goed geld verdient

Maar ik kan zien dat hij de boerderij mist

Hij belt om te vragen hoe het met de gewassen gaat

Ik zeg dat we wel wat regen kunnen gebruiken

Zegt dat zijn leven nogal snel gaat

En ik vertel hem dat de dingen hier altijd hetzelfde zijn

Nou, de sneeuw stapelt zich op in de winter

En de bugs komen uit in juni

Maar op de een of andere manier is het het allemaal waard

Als ik die oogstmaan zie
