The Masquerade -

There’s blood on the walls, on the chairs, on the floors

And the dancers should be quarantined

The doorman departs after stealing a kiss

His lips curl into something obscene

And the dresses and gowns look like Dracula’s sink

And the band’s only playing one tune

And the king to the queen is nowhere to be seen

Having gone out to howl at the moon

Put gold in your pocket, jump into the river, sharpen your teeth for the

masquerade

And there’s eyes in the punch and there’s somebody’s lunch

In a puddle next to the dead bouquets

The host is aghast as the compare at last

Thinks of something offensive to say

And the waiters hold platters of p45's as their pockets are robbed of the air

The masks are more kind than the faces behind

And nothing looks holy in there

Er zit bloed op de muren, op de stoelen, op de vloeren

En de dansers moeten in quarantaine worden geplaatst

De portier vertrekt na het stelen van een kus

Zijn lippen krullen in iets obsceens

En de jurken en japonnen zien eruit als de gootsteen van Dracula

En de band speelt maar één deuntje

En de koning tot de koningin is nergens te bekennen

Ik ben naar buiten gegaan om naar de maan te huilen

Stop goud in je zak, spring in de rivier, slijp je tanden voor de

maskerade

En er zijn ogen in de stoot en er is iemands lunch

In een plas naast de dode boeketten

De gastheer is verbijsterd als de vergelijking eindelijk

Bedenkt iets aanstootgevends te zeggen

En de obers houden schotels met p45's vast terwijl hun zakken van de lucht worden beroofd

De maskers zijn vriendelijker dan de gezichten erachter

En niets ziet er daar heilig uit
