Thank you for the light

There’s summer in your hands

I put down my head and see the shadow of a cloud

And after all the seasons, I am ready to lie down

Look at what I found, there’s sound inside me, but I am not that loud

Cut apart my living body and put it in your arms

Then take me to the creek that runs behind my yard

And after all that running I’ll be ready to float down

Thank you for the light

I’ll celebrate the mornings like the light would never come

Alone, in a sea of what I truly know

Of red and yellow and gold

Of the blue that always takes me home

The light I lose that loves me even though

I bring the dark when I can’t feel that I am warm

And I look inside just to see that there’s nothing more

But there’s blue in the stars even though I’ll never go

Past the window, past the water, past the sunroof in a car

Past the eyes inside my skull that will surely show me love

En na alle seizoenen ben ik klaar om te gaan liggen

Kijk wat ik heb gevonden, er is geluid in mij, maar ik ben niet zo luid

Snijd mijn levende lichaam uit elkaar en leg het in je armen

Breng me dan naar de kreek die achter mijn tuin loopt

En na al dat rennen ben ik klaar om naar beneden te zweven

Je hebt de zomer in je handen

Als ik mijn hoofd neerleg en het donker om me heen schreeuwt

Ik zal de ochtenden vieren alsof het licht nooit zou komen

Alleen, in een zee van wat ik echt weet

Van rood en geel en goud

Van het blauw dat me altijd naar huis brengt

Het licht dat ik verlies dat van me houdt, ook al

Ik breng het donker als ik niet kan voelen dat ik het warm heb

En ik kijk naar binnen om te zien dat er niets meer is

Maar er is blauw in de sterren, ook al ga ik nooit

Voorbij het raam, langs het water, voorbij het zonnedak in een auto

Voorbij de ogen in mijn schedel die me zeker liefde zullen tonen
