Glass Spider - David Bowie

Up until one century ago there lived,

in the Zi Duang provence of eastern country.

A glass-like spider.

Having devoured its prey it would drape the skeletons over its web in weeks

creating a macabre shrine of remains.

Its web was also unique in that it had many layers, like floors in a buuilding.

At the top of this palace-like place, assembled with almost apparent care,

were tiny shining objects, glass, beads, dew-drops.

One could almost call it an altar.

When the breeze blew thru this construction,

it produced sounds of wailing, crying.

Tiny wails, tiny cries.

The baby spiders would get scared and search frantically for their mother.

But the Glass Spider would have long gone, having known that the babies would

survive somehow on their own.

Oh-The Glass Spider had blue eyes almost like-a human’s.

They shed tears at the wintered turn of the centuries.

Tot een eeuw geleden leefde er,

in de provincie Zi Duang in het oosten van het land.

Een glasachtige spin.

Nadat hij zijn prooi had verslonden, zou hij de skeletten in weken over zijn web draperen

het creëren van een macaber heiligdom van overblijfselen.

Het web was ook uniek omdat het veel lagen had, zoals vloeren in een gebouw.

Op de top van deze paleisachtige plek, met bijna schijnbare zorg samengesteld,

waren kleine glanzende voorwerpen, glas, kralen, dauwdruppels.

Je zou het bijna een altaar kunnen noemen.

Toen de wind door deze constructie blies,

het produceerde geluiden van jammeren, huilen.

Klein gehuil, klein gehuil.

De babyspinnen zouden bang worden en verwoed op zoek gaan naar hun moeder.

Maar de Glazen Spin zou allang verdwenen zijn, als hij had geweten dat de baby's dat zouden doen...

op de een of andere manier op zichzelf kunnen overleven.

Oh-The Glass Spider had blauwe ogen die bijna die van een mens waren.

Ze huilden tijdens de overwinterde eeuwwisseling.

Hoor je deze verspilde kreet niet, het leven is over jou?

Maar je hebt gezien wie er in de hemel is.

Is er iemand in de hel?
